It took 3 years for Blockstream to launch the Liquid Network, a sidechain on Bitcoin. Liquid works by users first converting Bitcoin(BTC) to Liquid Bitcoin (LBTC). Each LBTC is tied to actual Bitcoins, but instead of moving on the main network, LBTC is moved within the secure Liquid Network sidechain. Thus, transactions can occur at a faster rate inside the Liquid Network sidechain with enhanced privacy obfuscating any blockchain forensics. Apart from faster and more private transactions on Bitcoin, Blockstream is also implementing other upgrades and enhancements to the Liquid Network such as third-party wallet support for Trezor and Ledger hardware wallets, a GreenAddress wallet and an open-source wallet client. As of now, Liquid is available to all of Blockstream’s partners to use for real transactions. Partners include 23 bitcoin companies, including exchanges, brokers and other institutions, who will help to manage the sidechain, as well as use Liquid to send transactions.
